Why Understanding Overeating is Essential to Stay Obesity Free
Food and Overeating
All living beings need food to survive. However, you have a distinct advantage of eating what you want to eat. You have taste buds that differentiate many kinds of tastes such as sweet, sour, for example. Further, due to sense of smell and color, you also want food to smell good, and look good, unlike any other animal’s choice for food. Moreover, food is necessary part of your daily life that keeps your mind and body active and healthy.
Healthy Diet
In addition, the food you eat should be moderated and eat more of raw or cooked foods than processed foods. It is essential to keep a balance of foods to get your body the vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates, to name a few. However, in some special cases people tend to overeat and fall victim to obesity and other related disorders.
Indeed, overeating is a disorder (1) that could be developed due to genetic disorders, stress, and depression, for example. Naturally, one must understand the source of overeating than treating the disorder itself to overcome overeating.
There are different types of overeating
Binge Eating
Binge eating involves eating a large amount of food in a short period. It is not necessarily an addiction or disorder, but could be a symptom of Binge Eating Disorder (BED) or Bulimia Nervosa. Binge drinking is another form of excess! Either of these is dangerous when uncontrolled.
Overeating From Super-size Meals
Most food joints are pushing super sized meals to cater to growing demand for such crowd. Obviously, super-sized meals are taking the world by storm and aggressively marketed by worldwide franchise network. Unfortunately, people who often eat these meals fall pray to overeating while most not being aware of the problems posed by overeating! Interestingly, frequent consumption of super-size meals can lead to poor nutrition and obesity.
Emotional Eating
Many people, when feeling upset, unhappy, stressed, anxious, or distressed are tempted to eat food in large quantities to cope up with the emotion. For example, a young woman eating large bowl of ice cream after a bad fight with a boyfriend, a middle-aged woman consuming huge bowls of pasta when she has PMS, or a stressed out guy who munches on donuts while being dumped with reports to make.
