How to Spur Creative Imagination in Children

Learning by Observation

We want our children to improve their creative imagination skills. Being creative is the sign of intelligence for any human. Our creative imagination faculty can be improved by reading, observing our nature, or man made products or structures. Further, the human brain is expandable. In other words, our creative imagination faculty gets developed by constant use. Moreover, children tend to learn better and faster by observing others instead of experimenting and learning on their own. Indeed, experimentation is necessary, however, for a child it is easier to learn by observing others. That is why learning process quickens when children are put together and asked to play in groups.

Developing creative imagination

There are countless toys designed around this idea. The idea is to teach children to develop their creative imagination. However, children may get bored by playing with same toys over and again requiring parents to buy better, if not expensive, toys. Is there any way to create interest in our children by using combination of existing toys to build a game around them? It is very much possible. It only requires parents’ creative imagination to think of ways to combine to create a new idea for a game. We can build interesting games structured this way.

Story telling using creative imagination

In fact, our world is getting more sophisticated everyday. Look at all kinds of integrated building/structures, products that are around us. So it is pertinent to teach our children by cleverly including those details while we are playing with them. By this means, we can subconsciously deliver the complexity of the world in the games we play with them.

Source of Creative Imagination

For example, I combined Thomas train toys and building blocks to construct an elevated railway system complete with parking lot, and a bridge connecting the super mall. The whole concept is so effective that it helps a parent to talk all about parking lots, office block, commercial complex, for example, to a child. The child exhibits a heightened interest in this system as it creates a real life image around the game. I can say the game gets practical and it is like a case study to the child. It is also interesting to observe how fast the child adapts those words in his linguistic learning and able to connect with real life effectively.

Using creative imagination with your children

In summary, there is no limit on what you can do with the toys you already have at home. You can readily build complex games around the toys that are at your disposal and create interesting learning framework for children. Moreover, this also makes an adult to use creative imagination to combine more than one toy to develop a real life game for her child. This way, both the parent and the child are mutually learning together.

Nevertheless, if you keep inventing new ways to combine toys you will never bored playing interesting games with your children. This brings the best in both the child and the parent. Let your imagination free and see how you can transfer that creativity to your child.
