Diabetes in younger people is increasing in alarming rate nowadays. The changed lifestyle of younger people compared to the older generation at the similar age is the prime reason. Diabetes in younger children is a cause for concerns for parents, nevertheless. Further, obesity and lack of physical activity are the main culprits to cause diabetes among children. Moreover, children may inherit diabetes from their parents. Therefore, the risk of diabetes in teenagers is high among families known to have diabetes. Evidently, it is easy to get diabetes in children and teenagers with the combination of factors as explained above.
Diabetes is internal
Nonetheless, diabetes does not spread from people to people. It is not contagious and not spread through air or water. Indeed, the diabetes caused due to inability to produce enough insulin naturally in the body. The cells use insulin to absorb glucose in the blood and to generate energy to keep the body functioning. The other reason could be that the cells in the body cannot effectively absorb glucose. Due to lack of insulin, the glucose levels shot up in the blood that damages vital body parts such as heart, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Diabetes, if untreated timely, leads to many bodily complications.
How to prevent diabetes
To prevent diabetes, one should follow these simple steps,
- Reduce body weight, if overweight. The reduction should be gradual, however.
- Increase physical activity. Walking, running, cycling, swimming, for example
- Consume Healthy foods. Eat less fat foods. Avoid junk foods. Increase intake of vegetables, and fruits.
Obesity causing juvenile diabetes
Obesity has become common problem among youngsters. Obviously, unlike previous generations, the younger generation is spending more time on computers and internet, and playing video games, for example. Naturally, regular consumption of junk food combined with lack of proper physical exercise has made the diabetes to appear in the very young age. Continued to next page…
