How to Completely Eradicate Dandelions from Your Garden or Lawn

You want to keep your garden clean and beautiful. You spend time to keep your garden well fed, and well maintained. However, you notice weeds growing persistently to your great annoyance not knowing what to do. One such weed is dandelions that grow in your garden without any efforts and  spoil your garden or lawn. Interestingly, dandelions  can regrow persistently.

Dandelions, a medicinal plant

Notwithstanding, dandelions are known for medicinal use as a herb (1). It’s a valuable herb that can be used as a food and medicine. Dandelion is a rich source of vitamins A, B complex, C, and D, as well as minerals such as iron, potassium, and zinc. Dandelion leaves are used to add flavor to salads, sandwiches, and teas. The roots are used in some coffee substitutes, and the flowers are used to make wines.

Removing dandelions from your garden

Removing dandelions from your grass can be tedious. Further, dandelions are problematic both above and below the ground. Above the ground, their seeds drop even at the smallest of wind resulting in more growth of the species. Below, the ground, the taproot of this plant is at least 10 inches long. Naturally, pulling off the taproot can be problematic. In addition, the root is crisp. So, pulling it off can break the root simply and a segment of the root that remains below the soil resulting in re-growth of the plant or the weed

Nonetheless, there are ways by which you can get rid of dandelions from your garden. The direct way of eradicating dandelions is to pull them out. Though this takes time and efforts, it is reasonably effective. First, you want to water the grass. Pulling the weeds from the ground becomes easier when the soil is wet. Using a knife, screwdriver or any other incision tool; make incisions next to the root. This will loosen the taproot a bit. Further, when the taproot seems loose, pull it out gently. If the root is coming out, continue to drag. However, when it does not come out, go on pulling after making one or two incisions.
