Oral hygiene is the need of the day when our teeth is only organ that does not repair itself when damaged unlike most other organs in our body. In fact, most organs have an ability to repair damages due to stress in our body. For example, our skin sheds the dead cells from our body and builds new layers of active cells. Bone marrow produced blood replaces the old blood every three months. However, when our teeth damaged, it never grows back. Given this, oral hygiene assumes utmost importance in our daily lives.
Role of teeth
Our teeth play an important role in processing the food we eat. Our teeth help to turn the food we eat into paste in our mouth by mixing with saliva. The saliva starts the digestion process to break the food into carbohydrates, for instance. Moreover, well-kept teeth are also a statement of our healthy habits. Further, our teeth can come under attack when we eat certain foods to cause acidic formation in our mouth. The acid can destroy our tooth enamel and cause cavities. Moreover, our habits directly affects our teeth. Smoking, and drinking carbonated beverages, for example, can cause tooth decay over a period.
Regular brushing
To the idea and practice of oral hygiene, we know that regular and proper brushing of teeth is all we need to maintain good oral hygiene. However, regular brushing of teeth is simply one of things required to preserve oral hygiene that by no means adequate.
